Ayon sa RAND California, ang kabuuang bilang ng mag-aaral sa UCLA ay 26,162.  Ang dami ng Pilipinong undergraduate ay 3.2% o 1,069 na nahahati sa 2.7% na di gradwado at 0.5% na gradwado.   Ang gradwadong mga estudyante ay 198 lamang ang bilang.  Samantala, mayroong 12 Pilipinong organisasyon sa campus ayon sa listahan ng mga organisasyon na nakatala sa http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/sgweb/list.asp,

Ang ilan sa mga Pilipinong organisasyon at ang mga layunin ng mga ito ay ang mga sumusunod:

1. Ang Samahang Pilipino ay isang organisasyon ng mga mag-aaral na tumutugon sa mga pangangailangan ng mga Pilipino at Pilipino-Amerikano sa UCLA at higit sa lahat, sa Los Angeles. Noong 1972, ang Samahang Pilipino ay nakatuon sa limang susi ng aspeto ng buhay ng isang Pilipino: kultura, panlipunan, pampulitika, pang-akademya, at komunidad.         Samahang Pilipino is a multi-faceted student organization which addresses the specific needs of the Filipino community of UCLA and the greater Los Angeles area. Since 1972, Samahang Pilipino has been committed to addressing five key aspects of Filipino life: cultural, social, political, academic, and community. 2.  SPACE - Samahang Pilipino Advancing Community Empowerment 

        Ang SPACE ay isang programa sa UCLA kung saan ang layunin ay suportahan ang mga gawain at kagustuhan ng mga high school at community college na mga estudyante na parte ng isang komunidad kung saan kulang ang representasyon nila.  Sa nakalipas na sampung taon, higit isang daang estudyante ang natulungan ng SPACE sa pamamagitan ng mga komprehensibong mga serbisyo - peer advising, peer tutoring, workshops para sa mga mag-aaral, workshops para sa mga magulang, at mga field trips. Ang aming serbisyo ay nakatuon sa pagtataguyod ng akademikong tagumpay, personal na kagalingan, pagiging aktibo sa komunidad, at ang pagbabalangkas ng matatag na plano para matamasa ang mas mataas na pag-aaral.

       SPACE engages at-risk, historically underrepresented, under served high school and community college students, supporting their efforts toward academic and personal achievement. Over the past decade, SPACE has supported hundreds of students through comprehensive services - peer advising, peer tutoring, student workshops, parent workshops, and field trips. 3.  SPEAR- Samahang Pilipino Education and Retention

        Ang pagtatatag ng Samahang Pilipino Education and Retention (SPEAR) ay isang programang sinumulan ng mga mag-aaral at ang mga mag-aaral din ang nagpapatakbo.  Sinisikap ng SPEAR na matulungan ang lahat ng undergrads harapin ang mga ibat-ibang klase ng isyu sa campus.

        Ang SPEAR ay nagbibigay sa mga mag-aaral ng mga kasangkapan upang pagyamanin at mapahusay ang karanasan sa kolehiyo. Bukod sa pagtulong sa mga mag-aaral pagtagumpayan ang mga akademikong paghihirap, ang SPEAR ay tumutulong din sa mga mag-aaral na mapanatili ang mabuting akademikong kalagayan sa pamamagitan ng peer counseling, mentorship, at sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng iba't-ibang workshops.

        Inaasahan ng SPEAR na magbigayan ang mga mag-aaral ng kaalaman tungkol sa karanasan sa campus, pati na rin ang mga mapagkukunan ng impormasyon upang itaguyod ang akademiko at personal na paglago.

        The establishment of Samahang Pilipino Education and Retention (SPEAR) is a student-initiated, student-run effort to help all undergrads confront issues on campus. SPEAR provides students with the tools to enrich and enhance the college experience. In addition to helping students overcome academic difficulties, SPEAR also helps them maintain and sustain good academic standing through peer counseling, mentorship, and by providing a variety of workshops.

SPEAR hopes to provide students with knowledge of the campus experience, as well as the resources to promote academic and personal growth.

4.  SPCN- Samahang Pilipino Culture Night

        Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night ang kombinasyon ng halos isang taon ng paghahanda, sa pagsasama ng awit, sayaw, at teatro sa isang produksyon na pinagdiriwang ang kulturang Pilipino. Sa pamamagitan ng isang cast na higit sa 100 ang kalahok, ang SPCN ay nagsisilbing isang mahalagang paraan ng pagkalat ng kamalayan tungkol sa isyu na nakakaapekto sa mga Pilipino dito sa Estados Unidos. 

        Bilang isang pangunahing programa ng Samahang Pilipino, ang SPCN ay isang mahalagang paraan upang itaguyod ang mga isyu na may kinalaman sa mga Pilipino / Pilipino-Amerikano. Dahil sa kakulangan ng Pilipino Studies at isang Pilipino Studies Center sa campus ng UCLA, 30 taon na nagsisilbi bilang isang malikhain pagpapahayag para sa Samahang Pilipino ang SPCN, upang bigyan ng edukasyon ang kampus, mga nakatira sa greater Los Angeles, at ang mga mamamayang Pilipino/Pilipino-American tungkol sa mga isyu.

        Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night is the culmination of almost a year of preparation, integrating live music, song, dance, and theater into a cohesive production that celebrates Pilipino culture. With a cast of over 200 participants and an audience of up to 3,600 individuals, SPCN serves as an important vehicle to spread awareness about issues that affect the Pilipino community in the US.

        As a major program of Samahang Pilipino, a Pilipino student advocacy organization at UCLA, SPCN is an integral way to promote issues that are relevant to the Pilipino/Pilipino-American community. With the lack of Pilipino Studies and a Pilipino Studies Center on the UCLA campus, for 30 years SPCN has served as a creative outlet for Samahang Pilipino to educate the campus community, the greater Los Angeles area, and the Pilipino/Pilipino-American community at large about such issues.

5.  PTSP- Pilipino Transfer Student Partnership

          PTSP ay isang organisasyon na dinisenyo upang taasan ang kamalayan tungkol sa kultura at akademikong mga isyu ukol sa mga karanasan ng mga Pilipinong transfer students sa pamamagitan ng pagtataguyod para sa mga pangangailangan nila. Nagbibigay din ng pagkakataon ang PTSP para sa mag-aaral para makahanap ng lugar kung saan mayroong suporta at pwedeng makatulong sa pag-unlad para mahanap kung ano ba talaga ang nais nito at naghihikayat sa pagbuo ng mga lider, at pagbibigay lingkod sa komunidad.

       PTSP is an organization designed to raise awareness about cultural and academic issues regarding the Pilipino transfer experience by advocating for the needs of transfer students, providing a space for student support and personal growth to assist the discovery of one’s true passion, and encouraging and developing leaders, and giving back to the community.

6.  Tinig

        Ang Tinig ay isang grupo na sinimulan ng mga estudyante at pinamamahalaan din ng mga estudyante.  Isa itong Pilipino-Amerikano Chorale Group sa ilalim ng Ethnomusicology Department ng UCLA. Ipinagdidiwang ng Tinig ang kulturang Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng tradisyonal na musika. Unang itinatag ang Tinig upang magkaroon ng grupong kakanta ng pambansang awit ng Pilipinas at Amerika sa SPCN.  Simula noon, lumago ang grupong ito at maraming nang mga lugar ang napagtanghalan ng Tinig.

        Tinig, which means “voice” in Tagalog, is a student-initiated, student-run, Pilipino-American Chorale Group under the Ethnomusicology Department of UCLA. Tinig strives to celebrate Pilipino culture through traditional chorale music.  Tinig came together for the purpose of singing the Pilipino and American National anthems in UCLA's annual Pilipino Cultural Night. Since then, Tinig has gone on to perform in numerous venues.

7.  Gawad Kalinga

        Ang Gawad Kalinga sa UCLA ay sangay ng samahang Gawad Kalinga sa Pilipinas. Ang salin ng “gawad kalinga” sa Ingles ay “give care,” at itinatag ito ni Tony Meloto noong 1995. Ang pangunahing layunin nila ay “baguhin ang mundo sa pag-iisa-isa sa pagtulong sa mga bansa,” at kasalukuyang tumutulong sa Pilipinas, India, at Cambodia. Ang pitong layunin nila ay: 1) magtayo ng tahanan para at kasama ang mga mahihirap, 2) makapagbigay ng pampubliko at pang-emerhensiyang pangangalagang pangkalusugan, 3) edukasyon, 4) pangkabuhayang pag-unlad, 5) pangangalaga sa kaligiran (sa pagpapanumbalik at proteksyon ng kaligiran sa pamamagitan ng pag-unlad na maipagpapatuloy), 6) paghubog ng halagahin (sa pamamagitan ng mga grupong mangangalaga at mga samahang pangdistrito o kapitbahayan), 7) pamamahala at pagbibigay kapangyarihan sa komunidad (sa pagbubuo ng mga lider na maglilingkod at responsableng may kamalayang mga mamamayan sa ikabubuti ng pamayanan).

        Gawad Kalinga at UCLA is a collegiate branch of its parent organization Gawad Kalinga in the Philippines. Gawad Kalinga is translated to ”to give care,” and was founded by Tony Meloto in 1995. Their main goal is to “change to world one country at a time,” and currently working at the Philippines, India, and Colombia. Their seven goals are: 1) to build homes for and with the poor, 2) provide public and emergency health care, 3) education, 4) economic development, 5) environmental protection (through restoration and protection of the environment through sustainable development), 6) value formation (through caretaker teams and neighborhood village associations), and 7) governance and community empowerment (by forming servant leaders and responsible vigilant citizens).

8. PCH-Pilipinos for Community Health

        Itinatag noong 1989, ang Pilipinos for Community Health (PCH) sa UCLA ay patuloy na nagsisikap na magbigay ng edukasyon at magbigay ng mga serbisyong pangkalusugan sa mga kapus-palad na komunidad ng Greater Los Angeles. Bagamat pinag-uukulan ng pansin ang mga isyu ng kalusugan na nangingibabaw sa mga Pilipino, ang PCH din ay kumikilala ng mga problema sa kalusugan na karaniwan sa iba pang mga kapus-palad na komunidad. Ang PCH ay may layuning maglingkod sa kahit sinuman, anuman ang nasyonalidad.

           Established in 1989, Pilipinos for Community Health (PCH) at UCLA has advanced its efforts to educate and provide health services to the socio-economically disadvantaged community of the Greater Los Angeles area. While addressing health issues that are prominent in the Pilipino community, we also acknowledge that these health problems are common in other underserved communities, and so we choose to serve every recipient, regardless of nationality. With the health field as its outlet for service, PCH serves various groups at the university, local, and international levels. Through its three main components of (1) Community Outreach, (2) Preventive Health, and (3) Pre-health Advising and Mentorship, PCH aims to help the community make wise health decisions and strives to provide members with valuable learning experiences.

9. PREP - Pilipino Recruitment and Enrichment Program

        Ang Pilipino Recruitment and Enrichment Program (PREP) ay may layuning mag-outreach sa mga estudyante ng mga matataas na paaralan sa paligid ng Los Angeles. Nais ng PREP na tumulong sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay sa kanila na mga resources, mentorship, at open forum discussions na kilala bilang “Sala Talks.” Ang apat na pangunahing layunin ng PREP ay ang pagtataguyod ng mas mataas na edukasyon, ang pagtaas ng panlipunan kamalayan, pagtalakay ng kamalayan tungkol sa kapiligiran, at pagkandili ng pamumuno.

        PREP stands for Pilipino Recruitment and Enrichment Program. We outreach to high school students all around the Los Angeles area by providing them with resources, mentorship, and open forum discussions known as Sala Talks. Our four main goals include promoting higher education, increasing social consciousness, instilling cultural awareness, and fostering leadership.

10.  Kappa Psi Epsilon

       The sisterhood of Kappa Psi Epsilon is focused on the enrichment of each member's life, through knowledge of culture and history. They are committed to the discovery of internal strength. To achieve such a goal, we devote and channel our energy, time and effort through the promotion of academics, community action, Pilipino cultural enrichment and awareness, and overall sisterhood. By learning about our struggles, triumphs and failures, past as well as present, we will fill ourselves with the wisdom to become better thinkers, better leaders, and better individuals. And in spite of being Pilipina-based, we enthusiastically welcome people of all ethnicities.

K MSP: Kasali ako sa iba’t ibang mga grupo sa Filipino community.  Student leader ako para sa Samahang Pilipino, ang mother organization ng mas malawak na komunidad ng Pilipino sa UCLA. Sa organisasyon, nasa komite ako na nagpo-produce ng Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night.  Kasali rin ako sa SPEAR na nagbibigay ng peer counseling at mentorship program.  Miyembro rin ako ng Tinig Choral, ang nag-iisang Pilipino-American na choral group na acapella sa campus.

        I am involved with many different groups in the Pilipino community. I am a student leader for Samahang Pilipino, the mother organization of the greater Pilipino community at UCLA. Within the organization, I am on the committee that produces Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night. I also participate in Samahang Pilipino Education and Retention (SPEAR), which provides peer counseling and a mentorship program. Last, I am a member of Tinig Choral, the only Pilipino-American choral acapella group on campus.
